Morning Brew — French Press to the Rescue!

At dawn, one day last summer, there was a loud explosion in the neighbourhood. Awakened, everyone wondered what had caused this noise, then reached for the light switch, the coffeemaker, the kettle, only to find that we had lost electrical power.

A mild wave of panic set in. How were we going to start the day without that first cup of brew? Well, thankfully, the nearest Tim Horton’s, Starbucks and McDonald’s were up and running. Coffee was ready for all who set out to make that morning purchase.

However, in this household, there was a different response to the crisis — turn on the BBQ to heat some water. Then, retrieve the French press from the cupboard, add some ground coffee, fill with boiling water and wait for 5 minutes.

Within a brief time, the coffee was brewed, mugs were filled, topped with milk and all was well with the world. 🙂

We even toasted a couple of slices of bread on the BBQ, as well.

By the way, within a couple of hours, hydro staff were busy fixing a transformer that had blown at the end of the street.

Thankful we are to all those people who keep the hydro facilities in good repair!
